Munke Mpoe

Munke Mpoe was burned severely when he was just one years old, but his parents were never able to afford medical treatment for him. Without treatment, severely burned skin contract severely when healing, often causing loss of function. This was the case with Munke, who not only completely lost his toes and part of his feet in the fire, but also lost function in his right hand due to contractures. Once such skin is contracted, corrective surgery in the form of scar contracture releases can help return function to hands and other areas of the body, But they are expensive.

Thanks to the generous support of donor Brenda Anderson, Munke was able to receive his first corrective surgery in 2021, at AIC Cure International Hospital. Munke received contracture release surgery for his right hand to allow him to hold a crutch and other tools so that he could more easily walk to school. Later he received an artificial foot on his left leg, but currently needs some repairs for it.
